Straight
With pure determination straight hair flows in one direction, the beauty of simplicity and ease. Straight hair falls under the 1A-1C category on the widely used Andre Walker Hair Classification System. This system was created by Andre Walker, Oprah Winfrey’s hair stylist, with the purpose of guiding each individual into developing a full understanding of their hair, how to treat it, style it and love it. But what is 1A-1C?
Wavy
The wave can be found at the middle ground between straight and curly, perfection in every bounce. Wavy hair falls under the 2A-2C category on the widely used Andre Walker Hair Classification system. Curly
The art of natural growing curly hair, from textured kinky hair to chemical curling, the afro is simply angelic. Whether your hair is coiled, spiral shaped or falling in ringlets, every curve is one of beauty. Curly hair falls under the 3A-3C category on the widely used Andre Walker Hair Classification system. Afro
Whether your hair is coiled, spiral shaped or falling in ringlets, every curve is one of beauty. Curly hair falls under the 4A-4C category on the widely used Andre Walker Hair Classification system. discrimination
Hair inequality and socio-economic disparities are a growing concern worldwide. This social injustice fixates on the black ethnic group, specifically those with afro textured hair that has been chemically straightened. This inequality is not solely defined by ‘hair discrimination’ but rather extends to pay raises, beauty, fashion, schooling, positioning and average salaries. We aim to break through this social injustice and build positive enforcement of hair equality worldwide
Hair discrimination – a testimonial from the ub hair founder, Zina Alfa
the petition
Having faced hair discrimination at school and her place of work, our founder decided that it was time to create a petition against the UK government, making it a legal requirement to include afro hair as a characteristic of race in the equalities act. With more than 93k signatures and partnerships with Dove, Lewisham Council, Refinery29, Grazia, Influencers, Milk & Honey Bees, Spiela, Afro hair UK and Project Embrace, we aim to pass this law and get people educated around what hair discrimination truly is.
